At the start of the year, there was a few things that I wanted to do.
First, complete my course - that I’ve done. Even if I still need to do another semester, I’ll treat it as effectively done, and that any future involvement will be way lower touch.
Second, I wanted a change in job scope. That, I’ve also done. Oh, did I mention, I am now working in secops in my company? Security operations. I’ve managed to successfully apply for a job switch. I am grateful that it came through. It’s only been one week in my job, but so far, I am really liking it. Cybersecurity. This field, for now, is deep enough, and the level of craft here is really endless. It’s fascinating and also powerful. Fortunately, despite having only a lay person’s knowledge of this field, it’s one of those roles that allows you to pick up on the job and to learn by doing. For that, I count myself truly lucky.
Third - I want to build my Bali house. The progress on this front has been slow, partly because the moving parts take time, and partly because I was too busy with my course to drive it. To drive it well, it’s paramount also that I learn bahasa indonesia. I am effectively useless without it.
Perhaps at the back of my mind, I am also subconsciously holding back due to the amount of capital investment required. But I am already at this stage. I should really see it through. The sooner I see it through, the sooner I’ll be able to reap the benefits of this - which is, a beautiful house in a place where I can surf, which also can be rented out when it’s not in use by me.
So yes. A lot of competing wants and priorities. On the work front, it’s vital that I am able to improve my competence in cybersecurity in a short span of time. So naturally, that kind of becomes a priority. Then, I also want to fully drive and see the bali project through to completion, and perhaps make a video of the full process as well - which also involves learning the language. In some ways, the house project is like my practice session for my langauge classes lol. Which is great. I think there’s many things that is beautiful about Indonesia.
Finally, I actually do want to keep up with my fitness for deep learning. To actually get a lot more practice in with the math, and to play around with more of the models as well as make instructional videos on it to consolidate my knowledge around it.
So yes - I “did nothing” for a while, but then felt way too floppy. Instead, I should go ahead and do what I like.
Did I mention I also want to get fit.
